K2 Studios specializes in producing visually-stunning, inspiring and educational large format films for IMAX® and giant screens. As film production in the giant screen format evolves, we evolve with it. K2 produces and co-produces documentary films, with end-to-end oversight from treatment, film financing, strategic partnerships, to the filmmaking itself.
K2 works with the leading directors in the industry. Directors such as Stephen Low and Mark Krenzien have directed some of K2’s industry leading films, such as Low’s Fighter Pilot (one of the longest running films in the industry) and Krenzien’s Journey to Space, the highest grossing giant screen film of 2016. Large format films, traditionally captured on 15/70mm film, boast nearly 10 times the image resolution of standard 35mm films that are projected in normal neighborhood cinemas. This allows for an exceptionally large projected image size while maintaining unmatched clarity and depth of field. |

We capture content that is ready for giant screen theatrical exhibition. Because our films are captured on the largest formats available, we are then able to scale our projects down to create digital 4K programming with the most vivid imagery. Additionally, we produce 3D content using the latest 3D stereo cameras, and by using state-of-the-art post-conversion technology.
K2’s content capabilities have expanded to include multiple formats, including TV and online media. With a consistently impactful reach across multiple channels, K2 delivers unique storytelling ability with unrivaled production expertise. SEA OTTERS 3D: A WILD FAMILY ADVENTURE
With their fluffy fur, expressive faces, and playful antics, sea otters have stolen the hearts of millions, all around the world. Beyond their undeniable charm, sea otters also enable the prosperity of the kelp forests they call home. Following in the footsteps of the successful and stunning IMAX features, Turtle Odyssey and Sea Lions: Life By A Whisker, this new installment will take families on a captivating “coming of age” adventure of the sea otter. New filming techniques will allow for unprecedented access to one sea otter pup’s heartwarming hijinks, educating and enthralling audiences with some of the cutest, cleverest and most intimate otter behavior ever captured on film. Grab a paw and join the raft as we embark on an otter odyssey, following Finn, the adorable otter pup on his big adventure story, growing up on the wild west coast of Vancouver Island. |

FIGHTING EXTINCTION
Of the 116,177 species assessed by the IUCN, 31,030 are threatened with extinction, an ecological threat never before seen in human existence. Deeply alarmed, scientists, organizations, and wildlife activists are dedicating their lives to preserving the web of life, where the survival of each species, including humans, is interdependent. Fighting Extinction explores some of the most promising and innovative conservation methods to reverse this trend - from raising baby giant tortoises in the wilds of the Galápagos Islands, to searching for the rare black rhinoceros in the savannah of Africa, and teaching orphaned Orangutans how to survive on their own in the jungles of Indonesia. Showing how species extinctions of the past can help us prevent similar disasters today, transporting audiences to the most stunning and wild locations around the world for an unforgettable and inspiring giant screen experience. |

PENGUIN PATROL: DOGS ON DUTY
Penguins live in Antarctica, right? Well yes…but if you know where to look, you’ll find them waddling around in Africa too, and even squawking in Australia! They’re graceful and majestic, until they get on land. That’s when they need our help. From the noisy colony of Jackass penguins in Boulder Beach, South Africa, to the world’s smallest (and cutest) penguins down under, this is a tale of two adorable families and their unexpected protectors, be it the human kind or four legged friend. We’ll follow one penguin chick from each population, Australian and African, on their lifelong journeys from hatchling to hero, as they waddle, hop and belly flop their way to adulthood, looking for love and forming their own penguin families. Get ready for a fliptastic, eggselent adventure with penguins and their unexpected pals. |
